About Me
My name is Alexander Watrous. I was born in Providence, Rhode Island in 1993. Though I grew up in a small town in the smallest state, I always felt I was destined to do big things. When my brother and I were very young we used to play make believe from morning till night. Cowboys and Indians, Ninjas and Spies. We often drew inspiration from characters and themes within movies and television universes to inspire us...
Whenever we would become obsessed about a particular character or story, our father would grumble to us, “Create your own worlds, don't let other people create yours.” What might have been a throw away line stuck with me into my adult life. As I got older and my skills increased, I used this expression as a way to help distinguish my creative work from the art of others. This fueled each artistic project.
In 2011, my brother and I started a monthly film festival called Film Night. We rented local space in Warren, Rhode Island's downtown area, set up a projector, chairs, and concessions and invited the public to come and watch local film makers for a 2 dollar cover charge. I would spend countless hours editing promotional videos for each event. I also acted in, directed, filmed, and edited short films to fill the event time. It was during this era that I fell in love with the craft of film making.
I went on to study film at Rhode Island College. During this time, I continued Film Night. It didn't take long before I formed connections with my fellow classmates and began to work on new and bigger projects. As I was studying, I was growing my start up company with my older brother. Watrous Brothers Productions was a brand name for all the shorts we produced. Over the years, we accumulated clients, some whom we still work with to this day.
Reflecting, it seems my trajectory was set from the start. I've always been a hard worker and held a strong vision for my dreams and goals. The film industry can be challenging and ruthless, however, through focus and determination, I have found happiness pursuing a career in line with my passions.
